On 1 January 2026, the Law on Juvenile Justice (Law No. 59/2024/QH15) officially came into effect, marking a humanitarian milestone in the history of Vietnamese justice. While many institutions are still in the process of studying and providing training on the new legislation, this morning (17 January 2026), a special trial took place at FAIE, where Law students skillfully applied this law to resolve a complex case.
From Theory to Practice: A Rigorous Selection Journey
The competition “Trial Through the Lens” was not merely a surface-level event but part of a rigorous training process. Officially launched in November 2025, the competition attracted nearly 20 promising contestants from the Law and Economic Law programs. After Round 1, which required contestants to submit competition videos, the Organizing Committee selected five outstanding candidates to advance to this morning’s Final Round mock trial.
Pioneering the Update of the Latest Legal Knowledge
In the Final Round, under the observation of the Panel of Judges and all attending students, the “Law on Juvenile Justice 2024” was vividly reenacted. No longer limited to dry legal texts, new concepts such as “child-friendly proceedings,” “diversion measures,” and the “principle of ensuring the best interests” were analyzed and applied sharply by the contestants directly in court.
Speaking about the practical significance of the competition, PhD Nguyen Van Tan – Dean of FAIE – emphasized: “In the context where the new Law has just taken effect, the competition is a golden opportunity for students to take a step ahead, immediately connecting new theoretical knowledge with adjudication practice. This will serve as a solid foundation for students to produce sharp legal awareness videos to be published on the student website, spreading the spirit of respect for the rule of law to the community.”
Credible and Professional Judging
Accompanying the students and providing in-depth professional evaluations was the Panel of Judges comprising lecturers from the Law and Economic Law programs:
MB Vu Thi Thanh Huyen – Head of the Financial and Banking Law Division (Head of the Panel).
MB Vo Anh Phuc – Member.
MB Ngo Thi Kim Anh – Member.
Final Results
After intense performances in the roles of Judge, Prosecutor, and Lawyer, the Panel of Judges identified the most deserving winners:
🥇 First Prize: Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao – Class 23LU111.
🥈 Second Prize: Phan Thi Ngoc Hoa – Class 23LU111.
🥉 Third Prize: Dong Nguyen Bao Thi – Class 25LU111.
🏅 Consolation Prizes: Luong Trang Thao Huyen and Thai Gia Bao – Class 23LU111.
The competition has concluded, but it has opened a new mindset for students of FAIE: studying law is not about memorization, but about proactively updating and applying the living spirit of the law to real life as soon as it comes into force.
